I just went to Zia Taqueria and what I want to know is where have I been? Que Bueno! It was so good! So I have to come from Mt. Pleasant. Big deal. It was really good and the margarita is not just the nasty mix you get at so many places. Go for the Patron. It’s fabulous! Then on to the movies two doors down. Cyrus…we will see.

Way Over Due

I can’t believe it has taken me this long but I finally pulled the long garden table out to have dinner looking over the top of the hill, across the marsh and water. I had a dinner party in mind. I have had a dinner party in mind on that hill for years…12 to be exact. Those who know me would think that I was “fool” for sure but I am finding a second chance and a connection to who I was a long time ago. And…a dinner party on the hill is an example of me finding my way back. I have always wanted to do it. You know, one of those things you dream of but never seem to get around to doing? This sounds like I am about to tell you about a fancy crystal and fan fare dinner but it was simple and it was real and it was happy. I had new friends all around and we all enjoyed the sun as it slowly crept over the marsh getting ready for bed. I had friends at the table NOTICING the light. What I didn’t notice was the 8×10 photo of me at the end of the table. They had, as a joke, taken a photo from inside of my long ago modeling days. The 80’s in all my glory. They wanted “her” to come to dinner. (I was just thankful they could see a resemblance)…It had to be pointed out to me. I didn’t notice. I was too happy to just be at a table, set by friends, eating a simple dinner, admiring the tomatoes from my garden and celebrating the evening together. How perfect.

It’s incredible what the love of your children can make you do. Tonight I sit in a parking lot, in an old beach chair, and it is 12am! I am here seeing Eclipse. Who cares about vampires anyway? It’s fun watching my 12 year old and her friend try and fight being sleepy. I am fighting sleep by writing this blog. My girlfriend Shannon had a thought…maybe we are coming at this all wrong? Maybe we should look around for a hot vampire to bite our necks so we can look younger! Ugh…no…I don’t want it THAT badly. Pray for rain…I am ready to go to bed.

This past Thursday we had a photo shoot at Muffie’s house. The pool house and pool were the main focus. It was a great day in spite of the heat. I can’t wait to see the article. Stayed tuned…

It’s really hot outside and everybody needs a smile and a laugh or just a really good summer book to read. I took my girls to Charlotte this past weekend for some “girl time.” We went to the mall, which is great as always, and ate at P.F. Changs, where the lettuce wraps are a must (or something is wrong with you). The last day everyone at our table enjoyed the cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory. Once we came out of our sugar coma we went to my new favorite store, Paper Skyscraper.

I went once before with a good friend of mine at Christmas. You could not even get in the door-a good sign for restaurants and stores. You can get anything from squirrel underpants(you’ve got to see it to believe it) to a beautiful coffee table book. Shall I tell you my shopping list???

Sweet Baby James

James Taylor’s voice is a summer evening with the stars bright and just a little humidity so the tones hang in the air. Here I am sitting in great seats looking down at James and Carole King. I am in Charlotte with my sisters and one of my best friends by my side. Life is so good.

The stage is slowly moving in a circle and I can’t help but think how my life is moving too. The opening song? “Blossom there is a song inside me..take these chains away” – James Taylor

Carol King wrote many of his songs and how could he not want to sing, “From a garden of wisdom, from a long ago dream” -Carole King

Music has always been a huge part of my life. A life without music for me would be a dull place. It helps me think…always has. This year, upon advice from a good friend, I turned my formal library that I never went in (but it looked good) into a music room. Less like a “music room” with instruments but more like the old 80’s poster of the guy sitting in a chair in front of a speaker with his hair blowing backward.

I recovered my grandmother’s comfortable barrel chairs in a rich deep purple velvet and I love that room now. A place to contemplate and to hear words of an old song that I have been listening to for years and years but only now do I understand.

The Best Blue

The best blue has just arrived in my garden. Every morning I get a cup of coffee and walk around in the garden and give thanks. God is THE master painter, designer extraordinaire! Make sure you cut hydrangeas in the early am or early evening for them to last. Deep water is also important. If you think they are on their way out, soak them in water from the top and then you can get them to last a day or two longer.

“My Daughter’s” Fish Tank

My daughter has found a love of mine. When I was a child I loved aquariums and at one time I had three. Not much sleep with three aquariums going but hey, I was in love. The colors and the peaceful movement of the fish were perfect moving paintings to watch while I contemplated the world. Stuart has found my Achilles’ heal. When we go to the fish store it is me who can not control myself…how much for the firecracker shrimp? Look at the colors! We name each one and this is Dexter. Would this not be a fabulous fabric? I would take them but then I already did…they are in “my daughter’s” fish tank.
