The Doctor Is In

Earlier this week we mentioned the Charleston Library Society’s “Great Expectations” event. It was last night and it was breathtaking. Each table represented a literary classic. We chose Doctor Zhivago.

’ Glitter, wealth, and fur – yet cold and empty and hollow. Poets can be physicians and still be lost. Educated and wealthy is no substitute for love. Our table is symbolic of Dr. Zhivago’s life’s journey. We hope he would find at our table good friends and food, a glass of red wine and perhaps “the love.” ‘

I think our table was spectacular. A big thanks goes out to Kelly and Nicholas.

Coffee table books are mostly picture books for adults. Who even reads them? Is there a point to all those photos of wildlife? I just don’t get it, but from being a visitor in Paris, I can actually appreciate Taschen’s Paris. It’s retro cover lures you in to all the best shops, hotels, and restaurants in the City of Lights.

I am sure you have all heard of the Barefoot Contessa. Ina Garten has written 6 cookbooks full of delicious recipes and tips. Her recipes have been featured in House Beautiful numerous times. This month she shares one of my favorites- chicken with goat cheese and basil. Ina says that we should all have a go-to recipe. This is one of mine.

We are so excited because we finally received Kelly Wearstler’s new book Hue. It’s absolutely amazing. It seems like everything she touches turns to gold. We have always admired her daring use of color and we’re glad to see it all in one place.
