Fresh Tomatoes and Basil

Hello from my favorite seaside restaurant tucked in a cove on the coast of Amalfi.  Squid and mozzarella, fresh tomatoes and basil.  Red wine and blue sky.  I dare say that I am happy and all is right in the world.  This is a place we came to three years ago and it is just [...]

Bottles and Tea Lights

Great idea!  At our hotel, as you walk through the bar to the dining room, they have the bar set up with all the liquor bottles and all around the bottles are tea lights. It is a great idea and makes the ordinary something beautiful.

Crisp White

We have returned to the same hotel here in Amalfi. It is easy and beautiful. Hanging on the side of a cliff  among incredible gardens, dropping to the jewel blue of the Mediterranean Sea. The decor is simple and that is one reason I adore it. The rooms have crisp white cotton bedspreads.  Simple art [...]

Italian Gardens

Italy is beautiful. We are in Amalfi now and the water is cold and blue.  The volcanic soil with grow anything I think. There are small gardens everywhere….rooftops, balconies, on job sites, even by the roadside. There are a few Americans, mainly Italian and Russians where we are.  It seems they have a preference for [...]

Lemon Trees

I am more content with myself and happy with who I am.  To my sister Ellen, I am not sure you will ever see this because to get to our hotel from the airport even the most seasoned traveler, Caroline Nelson, threw up!  The switch back roads winding on the cliffs were a “breathe deep, [...]

En Route to Amalfi

We have now arrived in Napoli en route to Amalfi. The style has changed with the heat. Less clothes, more black and hair gel. More to follow….

Off to Italy…

Hello to all from the clouds between Paris and the coast of Italy. Paris was beautiful….all of the gardens were in bloom….roses everywhere. Paris, for me, beats Rome hands down. The buildings are so incredible; trees and flowers everywhere. We went on a bike ride through Bagatelle which is a very large public park. It [...]

Trends in Paris

Everyone has asked me what I have noticed here in Paris. What are the trends in the flea markets and on the streets? The obvious is that everything is so much more expensive and things made in China have crept into even some of the coolest shops in Paris. This year’s trend seems to be [...]

More from Paris

Tonight is the summer solstice and there were musicians and parties all over the streets of Paris. I had dinner outside at a cafe by the river….. People watching at its best. Warm summer evening and fun watching all the individual styles walking around. A scarf is a beautiful thing. Great heels, beautiful scarf, jeans [...]

Landing in Paris

Good morning. We are landing in Paris now. I love to fly into Charles de Gaulle. Fields all around, checkered with hard work. They look so soft to the touch. French rooftops….Ahh, I have returned. It is like looking down at a toy world… so green and organized. As we begin the landing process, [...]
